Egglescliffe School

The CSI are supporting the development and expansion of STEM projects at Egglescliffe School to increase participation of both Egglescliffe students and children from other local schools. Organisations which will support include Nifco, Cummins, Teesside University, pX Ltd, Sabic and Labman.

Rockets. In partnership with students from Teesside University Aerospace Engineering, students are to design and build a number of rockets capable of achieving an apogee of 1000ft, returning safely with their payload of an egg intact, duration of flight not to exceed 35 seconds. Necessary components (altimeters / motors / body & fin material etc / insurance).

Greenpower F24. Egglescliffe has recently taken on a third car. The cars are race ready, but not competitive. Funding will be used to engineer the cars and improve their performance. This project is in partnership with Cummins, though more recently Nifco Engineers have taken a more proactive role.

Robotics. The Egglescliffe Robotics is growing in strength and numbers, Y7 involved in Lego Spike, Y8 involved in VEX IQ, Y9 involved in VEX V5, 6th form involved in First Tech Challenge. Funding will be used to purchase replacement robotic parts. This project is in partnership with Engineers from PX Ltd (Y7 & Y8), Labman (Y9) and Sabic (6th form). Looking to develop further to include a project of autonomous robots for Y10.

CAD. A vast number of students are involved in the Young Engineers CAD group, designing and 3D printing a range of real-world objects for use around the school site and also for personal use. In conjunction with engineers from Labman Automation, students are to design and build a number of 3D printers for use within the school. Funding will be used to purchase component parts for a 3D printer build. Printers will be freely available to use for STEM, DT and Science.
