The Cleveland Scientific Institution (CSI) awards funding for STEM activities to be undertaken by organisations in the Tees Valley. We welcome applications from organisations for projects and activities which fit with our criteria for awards.
We undertake to consider all applications fairly, based on the information provided. The applications are considered first by people who have been given this responsibility who make a recommendation to the CSI Council. The recommendation is then considered by the CSI Council and the final decision is made. Once the decision is made, this will be communicated to the Applicant.
MAKING AN APPLICATION
Applications may be made on our official application Form. Please fill in the form comprehensively and with as much detail as possible to describe your application and the project for which you will use the funding. We will be delighted to discuss potential applications if you would like to contact us before you submit your application.
Once you have submitted an application form, you may be contacted if further information is needed before the decision is made.
Submit the application to the email address on the website (j.shelton@tees.ac.uk).
You will receive confirmation in writing about the decision.
There are specific criteria that we have to consider in our review of the application. These are explained in the guidance notes.
The Cleveland Scientific Institution, founded in 1921, is now a charity and grant awarding body with grants available for STEM projects and activities which benefit young people in the Tees Valley region and nearby locations.
Our grants are funded from capital built up in the days when Teesside was a major centre for steelmaking, shipbuilding and chemical manufacture. We use income from that capital today to benefit local young people and persuade them to take up STEM careers.
We particularly like projects which are part funded by others, have industrial involvement and are open to all on an equal opportunities basis.
We have worked with many local organisations including schools, local branches of national scientific and engineering institutions, rotary clubs and other charities.
Details of eligibility criteria and how to apply are in the guidance notes below.
Application to fund a project must be made on our application form (word document below) and submitted to Julie Shelton by email (j.shelton@tees.ac.uk).
We will be delighted to discuss your project funding application if you would like to contact us before you submit your application form.
Once you have submitted an application form, you may be contacted if further information is needed before the decision is made.
We welcome applicants that have been awarded funds to come and present to the CSI at our Council meetings on completion of the project if possible so that we see the outcomes. This helps us to improve the way we work and how we engage with applicants.
