Whitby and District Rotary Club – Technology Tournament

This is a nationally organised project for schools involving a technology challenge for KS3, KS4 and KS5. In this area it is held at a venue in Whitby annually.  For example, in 2022, the challenge was to construct a weight powered vehicle which had to run up a slightly inclined plane.

In 2023, the task involved the design and manufacture of a vehicle to cross a river using a cable, which is suspended across it.  Each Team is required to compile a Project Portfolio containing all design work and other information.

The event has been running for over ten years and CSI has supported the event financially (with the cost of materials and tools) over several years. Funding was also secured from The Welding Institute, Sirius Minerals Foundation and the BHD Partnership.

Project Impact:
The Rotary Technology Project has been developed to enhance pupil skills and are a challenging and enjoyable way for young people to enrich their STEM learning (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths). Schools in our local area are always willing to take part as Teachers see the RTP as a way of further enhancing the curriculum.
